About Me
I formed the sole-proprietorship of Lavery Illustration in 1987 after completing
an MFA degree in Medical and Biological Illustration from the University of
Michigan.
I began my undergraduate studies as a science major at the University of
Tampa. While there, I was compelled to pursue my increasing interest in the arts.
In order to find a more diverse curriculum, I transferred to the University of
South Florida where I was awarded a BA degree from the College of Fine Arts.
The focus of my freelance career has been in medical publishing doing surgical,
anatomical and educational illustration. My work has been widely published in
books and journals as well as having been used in video, slide and PowerPoint
presentations. A partial client list includes: American Medical Women’s Association,
Baxter Publishing, Inc., Churchill Livingstone, Inc., The Curtis National Hand
Center, Electronic Publishing Services, Inc., Elsevier Science, W. L. Gore &
Associates, Inc., Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, MPS North America LLC, W. B. Saunders, Urban &
Schwarzenberg and numerous private physicians.
More recently my business as grown to include custom digital portraiture services,
a natural progression after years of producing medical illustrations rendered in
Adobe Photoshop. With tremendous software advances, digital painting has
become an exciting and wonderful form of artistic expression. Partnered with an
Epson Stylus Pro 3880 printer, I deliver Giclee prints, archival up to 100 years, on a
variety of fine art papers and canvas.
